Adding a Cat to your Family

Compared to most pets cats are fairly low maintenance. However, they still require and will request your attention. Cats are an ideal pet for people who work long hours or for people who don't have the ability or time to exercise them. Even if you're searching for an easygoing companion a cat will make a great addition to your family.

While caring for your cat, you'll need a few basic supplies, a premium feline diet, a high level of preventive health care (vaccinations, parasite control, and good oral hygiene) as well a trusted veterinarian who you will need to see twice a year.

Ask your vet about simple routine care you can do at home to prevent a number of common ailments, from hairballs to ingrown toenails. And of course you'll need to keep their litter box clean. (If you don't, they will refuse to use it — and no one wants that.)

But the best thing about owning a cat is that they love us and will seek out our company. They want and need to play with us, to snuggle with us, to bond with us. The idea of cats' being aloof is a myth. They just love us in feline ways, like teenagers, only hairier and they don't ask for money.

Cats are arguably the most easygoing and adaptable pets you can choose, but they do have their own special needs. Your responsibility is to protect your cat and provide her with the care and love she needs. In return, you'll have a beautiful, loving companion for many, many years. Your cat always keeps up her end of the bargain, so make sure you keep up yours.
