Bird Allergies

Bird allergy is not that unlike your basic cat or dog allergy, in fact, most individuals who suffer from bird allergy seem to develop the allergy over a period of time, usually resulting from extended periods of bird dander exposure.

The feather dander is the main culprit of allergens; symptoms of bird allergy are usually similar to those with hay fever or allergic rhinitis. Symptoms for bird allergies can include but are not limited to:
  • Nasal congestion, accompanied by itchy nose, runny nose and dry nasal passages
  • Chest congestion
  • Redness, irritation, itchiness and overall discomfort of the eyes.
  • Sore, itchy throat
  • Ear infections
  • Sinus infections

Other symptoms can include decreased lung function. If you are experiencing decreased lung function you need to seek medical help as soon as possible, as this may be a sign of a much more severe reaction.
